The End Of An Era
A look back at the brand that started it all.
Emery Murphy Design began before I fully knew what it would become.
I started this company while I was still earning my degree in interior design. At the time, it was not created as a fully formed business with every detail mapped out. It was created as a place for my work to live outside of the classroom. It gave me a way to showcase what I was creating in my design program, while also giving me space to explore the work I was drawn to beyond it.
In the beginning, Emery Murphy Design was a reflection of where I was in that season of life. I was a student, a young designer, and someone who was learning how to turn ideas into something tangible. I was still figuring out my voice, my style, and the kind of work I wanted to be known for. Starting this company gave me a place to take those first steps and begin building something of my own.
As time went on, the brand started to grow with me. What began as a way to share my work slowly evolved into something more. My projects became more intentional, my confidence grew, and I began to understand my own perspective as a designer more clearly. Eventually, Emery Murphy Design became more than a portfolio. It became a business, and it opened the door to clients, opportunities, and experiences that helped shape the beginning of my career.
Looking back, I have so much gratitude for this chapter. Emery Murphy Design was the foundation. It taught me how to share my work, how to speak about my ideas, and how to start before everything felt perfectly figured out. It gave me the confidence to put my name behind my work and trust that what I was creating had value.
This chapter also followed me through some of the most important moments in my early career. It was there while I finished my degree in interior design, stepped into the professional design world, and continued learning what it means to create spaces with intention. It held the earliest version of my vision and gave me room to grow into the next one.
Over time, I began to feel that the brand was ready to evolve. I am still proud of Emery Murphy Design and everything it represented, but I also knew I was creating something that had the potential to become bigger than just my name. I wanted the next version of the brand to feel more grounded, more intentional, and more aligned with where my work is headed.
A Glimpse Into the Early Days
So, this is the end of an era, but it is not the end of the story. Emery Murphy Design will always be the beginning. It was the first version of a dream that I am still building. It represents the courage to start, the willingness to grow, and the beauty of letting something evolve when it no longer fits the same way it once did. This chapter will always matter because it made the next one possible.
To Emery Murphy Design, thank you for being the foundation. Thank you for holding the earliest version of my work, my vision, and my confidence as it grew.
